The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, chartered in 1789, is the nation's first state university and is ranked as one of the best public universities in the U.S. Its 729-acre campus is located in the lovely, historic town of Chapel Hill, which combines the comforts of small town living with the amenities of a cosmopolitan environment. Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, and other smaller communities form the metropolitan area of the Research Triangle, which features many cultural and historic attractions and is highly rated nationwide as a place to live and work.
