Dr. Sarah Phillips has been conducting anthropological research in Ukraine since 1995. Her researchinterests include the effects of socialist collapse on people?s lives, especially in terms of gender formations,health, social inequalities and social justice, and changing citizen-state relations. Dr. Phillips' work hasresearch applications beyond Eastern Europe, especially as she seeks to extend understandings of civil societyprocesses and changing citizenship regimes in contexts of political and social change. Her recent research hasfocused on women, social activism and civil society, and the Ukrainian disability rights movement.
