Workshop: "What Is Eurasia?"
Time: 10:00 A.M. to 4 :00 P.M., Saturday, March 24, 2007
Location:
Duke University, West Campus, Durham
Sponsored by: The Duke University Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies
The fall of the Soviet Union and the war in Afghanistan have brought unprecedented attention on the nations of Central Asia, especially the so-called "stans": Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The Duke University Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies is pleased to announce a one-day workshop on "What Is Eurasia?" The purpose of the workshop is to introduce and explain this important, but little-known, region of the world.
The program speakers will be drawn from leading scholars and specialists at Duke and other universities. Each talk will be followed by ample opportunity for questions and answers.
A variety of teaching materials will be distributed to all participants. The Duke CSEEES is able to provide limited financial assistance for participants who travel substantial distances to attend.
Those interested in attending should contact Michael Newcity at mnewcity@duke.edu.
