Call for Applications from UNC-CH Faculty: Faculty Engaged Scholars Program

a Faculty Engaged Scholars Program

Deadline: September 12, 2008

Website: http://www.unc.edu/cps/faculty-engaged-scholars.php

Program Description:
The Faculty Engaged Scholars Program is an initiative of Carolina Center for Public Service and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Public Service and Engagement to advance faculty involvement in the scholarship of engagement.*

Through a competitive application process, at least five faculty members from UNC- Chapel Hill will be selected to participate in the two-year program. The inaugural class of Scholars was selected October 2007. More information about the first class is available http://www.unc.edu/cps/faculty-engaged-scholars.php

In the first year of the program, Scholars will take part in an experiential advanced curriculum on engaged scholarship, and will work on developing a proposal in partnership with the community. In the second year, Scholars will begin implementation of their proposal, designed to result in a scholarly project or a product of disciplined inquiry (this may be a new project or an extension of ongoing engaged scholarship). Scholars will receive a stipend of up to $7,500 per year for each of the two years (maximum $15,000).

Eligibility:
Priority for participation will be given to tenure-track faculty with any length of service at UNC-Chapel Hill, and fixed-term faculty who have been at Carolina for at least five years. Faculty who demonstrate interest and/or experience in applying their scholarship to addressing practical problems of the state, with the potential to establish long-term benefits to North Carolinians, will receive preference in the first year of selection.

An online application will be available starting August 3, 2008. To learn more about the program in general, please visit our web site: http://www.unc.edu/cps/faculty-engaged-scholars.php
