Miklos Haraszti, the Representative on Freedom of the Media of OSCE
to visit UNC


aNext week, Sept. 21-24, 2008, Miklos Haraszti, the Representative on Freedom of the Media of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), will be visiting UNC.


 

Miklos Haraszti is a Hungarian journalist, writer, human rights advocate, and political activist.  During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading figure in Hungary’s Democratic Opposition and an editor of the samizdat journal, Beszelo.  He was elected to Parliament in 1990 and served until 1994.  He later was a lecturer on democratization and media politics in several universities.  Among his writings are A Worker in a Worker’s State and The Velvet Prison.   In 2004, he was selected as OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.  He was reappointed in 2007.
