Russian Movie Night: "At Home among Strangers", 1974

a Subsequent movies will be shown same time/same place, every other Thursday.

Time: Thursday, September 4th, 2008, 7:00 p.m.
Location: Dey 402 (fourth floor)

This Thursday (September 4th) the first Russian movie screening of the semester will take place at 7 pm in Dey 402 (fourth floor).

Subsequent movies will be shown same time/same place, every other Thursday.

We'll be kicking things off with the classic Soviet Western, "Svoi sredi chuzhix, chuzhoi sredi svoix" ("At home among strangers," 1974). Heavily influenced by westerns like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "The good, the bad and the ugly," this is a great example of an "ostern" (Soviet/eastern bloc take on the "western") and one of director Nikita Mihalkov's best works.

There will be English subtitles, so feel free to bring friends! Instructors, please forward this to your students! There will be popcorn! Come one, come all!
