The Southern Literary Journal, a peer-reviewed journal edited by Fred Hobson and Minrose Gwin, publishes scholarly articles on the literature of the American South and reviews of critical works on southern literature and culture.

Recent issues of The Southern Literary Journal include articles on William Wells Brown, Charles W. Chesnutt, Zora Neale Hurston, William Faulkner, Carson McCullers, Walker Percy, Dorothy Allison, the New Critics, and the "long" Civil Rights Movement.

The Southern Literary Journal is published biannually by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of English and Comparative Literature and is distributed by the University of North Carolina Press.
