David Jay Weber, M.D., M.P.H.

 


Dr. David Jay Weber received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) in 1973, his Medical Degree (M.D.) from the University of California, San Diego (La Jolla, CA) in 1977, and his Master's in Public Health (M.P.H.) from Harvard University (Brookline, MA) in 1985. He will receive his Master's in Hospital Administration (M.H.A.) from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Chapel Hill, NC.) in 1998. Dr. Weber completed a residency in Internal Medicine, Fellowship in Infectious Disease, and a Fellowship in Primary Care at the Massachusetts General Hospital between 1977 and 1985. Dr. Weber is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Preventive Medicine. Dr Weber has been on the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 1985. He is currently an Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics and Epidemiology in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Weber serves as the Medical Director of the Departments of Hospital Epidemiology, Occupational Health, and Environmental Health and Safety at UNC Hospitals. He also serves as an Associate Chief of Staff for UNC Hospitals and Assistant Dean of UNC School of Medicine. He is an Associate Director of the M.D./Ph.D. Program at the UNC School of Medicine. He serves as the Epidemiologist for the UNC General Clinical Research Center. In addition, Dr. Weber is an Associate Director of North Carolina Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology which is housed at the UNC School of Medicine.

Dr. Weber teaches in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health. He has published more than 75 scientific papers in the peer reviewed literature. In addition he has published 3 monographs and more than 40 book chapters, editorials, and short papers. Dr. Weber’s major research interests include the epidemiology of tuberculosis, the epidemiology of HIV infection, infectious diarrhea, and nosocomial infections.
