Application forms and directions

Applications are welcome from students world-wide. Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university, or its international equivalent, preferably in a relevant subject area (Political Science, History, International Relations, European Studies, American Studies, Economics, or modern languages). All students are expected to be proficient in English and at least one other language. Students whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency with the TOEFL or IELTS exam. Students who wish to undertake coursework in a language other than English must demonstrate ability in one of the other consortium languages first through a language evaluation to be completed by a university or college faculty member and submitted with the application. Language skills will be screened again at the beginning of the fall semester at UNC in an interview. If the student's language skills are found insufficient for university level coursework, the student will be asked to revise study plans.

In addition, those applying to study at Sciences Po in Paris must also apply to that institution and must meet the French-language requirements in place there. S-P now requires a Test de connaissance du français (TCF) or Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF) score. If you are unable to take this test or unable to achieve the C1 level S-P requires, it may be possible for you to take SMI classes in English at S-P and then (re)take the standardized French test over the summer.

You will need to fill out the S-P online application. Once you get to this site, please select "partnership programmes" and fill out the application fields. This application should take about 20 minutes to complete.

ALL applicants are required to take the GRE General Exam. All exam scores must be reported to UNC-CH before the application deadline.

Please note: non-US citizens without a valid visa need to complete the forms necessary to obtain an I-20, which will allow them to apply for a visa for stay in the United States. These forms, known as Financial Certificate forms, can be found on this site or requested from the TAM office.

The complete packet of application materials (PDF) contains: an introductory letter, a detailed application procedure, a summary of the program and its modules, and the application itself.
