    Hargrove is married to Sandy Hargrove and is a partner in the law firm of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey and Leonard. He was a Jefferson Standard Foundation and Alumni Scholar at UNC and received a B.A. with honors and J.D. from the School of Law. He was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece and Order of the Old Well. He was president of the UNC Law School Alumni Association and has served on the University’s Board of Visitors, the Board of Visitors of the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Advisory Committee of UNC’s Center for Media Law and Policy and the General Alumni Association Board of Directors. He was awarded the UNC Law School’s Distinguished Alumnus Award. Hargrove has served on various boards and commissions, including the Governor’s Council on State Goals and Policy, as the chair of the Agency for Public Telecommunications, as president of the Center for Public Policy Research and as chair of the Administration of Justice News-Media Council. He was inducted into the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

    Hyde is the president of J. R. Hyde III Family Foundation and director of the J.R. Hyde Sr. Foundation. The foundations support public education, civil rights and other worthy endeavors. She earned a B.A. in English and religion from Carolina in 1983. She is married to Pitt Hyde. As a Carolina student, Hyde was a Morehead Scholar and was inducted into the Order of the Old Well. She began her career in the University’s development office, serving as executive director of the Arts and Sciences Foundation from 1987 to 1992. On campus, she co-chaired the Women’s Leadership Council and served on the Carolina First Campaign Steering Committee. She serves on the External Advisory Board of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities. In Memphis, she is an active board member of KIPP Academy, the Women’s Foundation, New Leaders for New Schools and is the current board chair for the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy.

    Clay is a professor of city planning and the former chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is spending 2011-12 as a Senior Fellow at the Ford Foundation. He graduated from Carolina with a B.A. degree with honors in 1968 and earned his Ph.D. in 1975 from MIT. He received the University’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2002 and serves on the Academic Leadership Program National Advisory Board for the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at UNC.

    Caudill is the co-founder of Magellan Laboratories Incorporated. He received a BS degree in Chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill in 1979 and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry at Indiana University in Bloomington in 1983. He is the Chair of the Chancellor’s Innovation Circle. He is an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill, a member of the Chemistry Department External Advisory Board and Chair of the Private Fundraising Steering Committee for the Physical Science Complex. He is a member of the Advisory Working Group for the Entrepreneurship Minor in the College of Arts and Sciences and is Chair of the Minor’s Private Fundraising Campaign. He is a member of the Executive Board of The Educational Foundation. He was a Steering Committee member of the $2.4 billion Carolina First Campaign. In 2008, he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from UNC Chapel Hill. In 1998, he and his Magellan Laboratories business partner, Alfred G. Childers, were named Life Sciences Entrepreneurs of the Year for the Carolinas and in 2002, they received the North Carolina Council for Entrepreneurial Development Entrepreneurial Excellence Award. He is an active entrepreneur and supporter of entrepreneurial endeavors. He is married to Susan Self Caudill, UNC ’80.

    Curtis is Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Curtis Media Group, Inc. which he founded in 1968. The company currently operates 25 radio stations in North Carolina along with various news networks that serve an additional 72 stations. He is married to Barbara Hoffman Curtis and his daughter is a UNC ’93 graduate. He has three grandchildren. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters of which he is past President. He was inducted into the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2002. His service to Carolina includes four years on the Board of Visitors and as a member of the National Development Council. He has also four years on the Board of Directors of the UNC General Alumni Association and is currently Chair. He has also completed a term of service on the UNC Healthcare System Board of Directors. He currently continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication Foundation, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Rams Club (Educational Foundation). In 2005, he received the William R. Davie Award from the university’s trustees to recognize extra-ordinary service to Carolina or to society.

    Alston is a Venture Partner in Fulcrum Equity Partners is an Atlanta-based private equity firm focused on providing expansion capital to rapidly growing companies. He was the founder and chief executive officer of OnTarget, Inc., a sales training and consulting firm until its sale to Siebel Systems in 1999. His University activities include the Chancellor’s Innovation Circle, Kenan-Flagler Business School Board of Visitors, and the Kenan-Flagler Foundation Board. He is an adjunct lecturer in the MBA and BSBA programs at Kenan-Flagler. He served on the steering committee for the Carolina First Campaign, chaired the University’s Advisory Board and helped lead efforts to build the FedEx Global Education Center. He graduated from Carolina with a B.A. in 1977. He completed a Post-baccalaureate certificate in Psychology at Columbia University in 2011.

    Peter is Chairman of Bloomberg LP, the global financial media company that was founded in 1981. He has been a member of the Bloomberg Board since October 1996 and was named Chairman of the Board in March 2001. Prior to this, Peter was a Managing Director of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1992 to 2000 when DLJ was acquired by Credit Suisse First Boston. He served as a Managing Director and Senior Partner of CSFB Private Equity until March 2002. Peter is a founder of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and DLJ Investment Partners. He graduated from Carolina in 1968 and the Harvard University Graduate School of Business, Program for Management Development in 1975. Peter serves as lead director of Davita, Inc., a healthcare services company, and has been on the board of directors of over twenty-five public and private companies. He is a member of the Business Council and serves on its Executive Committee. Peter is also a member of the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum. He is Chairman of the External Advisory Board of the Undergraduate Honors Program and is actively involved in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Foundation Board and the UNC Global Research Institute Board. He also served as a member of the UNC National Development Council at the University. Peter is the President of the Board of Trustees of the Inner City Scholarship Fund in New York City and a member of the Partnership for Inner City Education Board of Directors. He is a trustee of Rockefeller University and President of the Pomfret School Board of Trustees. Peter is the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors of The Big Apple Circus, member of the Board of the USA Cycling Development Foundation, and a member of the Board of the Prostate Cancer Foundation. He is a recent recipient of the Peterson Business Award, the William Richardson Davie Award, the Dean’s Award for Distinguished Service to the College of Arts and Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Papal Order of Merit. Mr. Grauer is married and resides in Greenwich, Connecticut. He and his wife Laurie have three daughters.

    Landis is a partner with Plexus Capital, a firm that focuses on investments and partnerships with middle market businesses. He was CEO of RBC Centura Bank from 2001 until his retirement in 2004 after serving as president of Centura Banks before its sale to RBC Financial Group in 2001. He also worked for Wachovia and First Union banks in North Carolina. At UNC-Chapel Hill, Landis earned a bachelor of science in business administration degree and a master’s of business administration degree. He is a past chair of the University’s Board of Visitors and a member of the UNC-Chapel Hill Foundation’s Board of Directors. He serves on the Kenan-Flagler Business School’s Board of Visitors and previously was an adjunct professor of finance. In addition, he has been a trustee of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, housed at UNC-Chapel Hill, and a trustee of Elizabeth City State University. He was also a director of the N.C. Citizens for Business and Industry and chaired the North Carolina Bankers Association.

    Steven J. Lerner, Ph.D. is the Founder and Managing Partner at Blue Hill Group. He is also the Founder and Chairman of FGI. Dr. Lerner is a Partner and Advisor of LaunchBox Digital. Dr. Lerner has spent the last 30 years helping small and medium sized businesses maximize their potential. He has been involved in the formation of a number of companies. Dr. Lerner serves as Chairman of Capstrat, a strategic marketing communication firm. Dr. Lerner was also Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Sterling Cellular prior to its sale in 1993. He is currently on the Board of HealthEMe, a provider of digital heath care services and Bandwidth.com, a provider of next generation communications services. Over the years Dr. Lerner has served on the Boards of a number of locally based organizations. He was Chairman of Yankelovich Partners prior to its sale to in 2008 and KBM prior to its sale in 1999. Dr. is currently a member of the President's Council on Community Solutions. Dr. Lerner received both a Ph.D. and an M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is married the Sharon Van Horn, MD a UNC trained Pediatrican. They have two children Sarah and Naomi.

    Shuping-Russell is managing director of BlackRock. She was previously a principal at Quellos Private Capital Markets until it was acquired by BlackRock in 2007. She graduated from Carolina with a B.A. in English and political science in 1977 and earned an M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1983. Her University service has included the University Board of Visitors, the Board of Advisors of the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the Board of Directors of the UNC Health Care System. She is a Trustee of the Endowment Fund, a director of the UNC Foundation, and a director of the Foundation Investment Fund, Inc. Shuping-Russell was a general partner with Intersouth Partners and a founding member of the Duke Management Company, where she was responsible for the private investment portfolio of Duke University. She formerly served on the Boards of Commonfund Capital, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, the Council for Entrepreneurial Development Board, and as a trustee of St. Mary’s School.

    Townsend is managing partner and Chief Operating Officer for Tiger Management, LLC. He received a B.A. degree in history from Carolina in 1977, and M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School in 1982. He is married to Marree Shore Townsend, who also graduated from UNC in 1977. Currently, he is a director of Belk, Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors for International Paper Company. Townsend is also a member of the Riverstone Group and of the investment committee of the Smith Richardson Foundation. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the UNC Investment Fund and served on the Board of Visitors for Kenan-Flagler Business School. He served on the Carolina First Campaign Steering Committee and is on the National Advisory Board for Ackland Art Museum. Previously, his family established the Townsend Freshman Seminars and the Townsend Family Professorship. He also serves as a Trustee of Greenwich Hospital, as a Trustee of the US Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation and as a Trustee of the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.

    Washington is a distinguished attorney and partner at K&L Gates LLP (formerly Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman LLP). She received a B.A. degree in economics from Carolina in 1987 and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990. She practices in the area of employment law, including employment-based immigration. She has served on numerous boards and committees, including the American Bar Association House of Delegates, the North Carolina Medical Board, the Arts and Science Council, the Mecklenburg County Bar’s board of directors, the personnel committee for the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte. She is currently a member of the bar’s special committee for diversity and co-chair of its law firm/law departments subcommittee. She is also a member of the K&L Gates Diversity Committee and chairs the Charlotte office committee. Washington was also named in “Best Lawyers in America” for immigration law, labor and employment law in 2007, and Super Lawyers Magazine for employment and immigration in 2008 and 2009.
