Diversity Education Seminar for Students
Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pleased to announce the Chancellor’s 21st Century Vision on “Diversity in Higher Education.” This three-part, interactive series consists of national scholars discussing the role of diversity in education, access, and research.

Hosted by the UNC-Chapel Hill Diversity and Multicultural Affairs or DMA, “What Does it Mean to be (fill in the blank) at UNC?” is a candid, constructive discussion where students have the opportunity to share their insight, knowledge, and perspective on what it means to have students, faculty, staff, and community members on campus who represent different experiences. Through this dynamic intergroup dialogue, facilitators will provide an open and safe space for exploring the role student identity plays in developing an inclusive and appreciative academic and social climate at UNC.
Session Objectives
- Define diversity and examine the importance of diversity
- Explore the concept of identity
- Learn more about how fellow students view diversity
- Learn how to communicate and work with diverse populations more effectively
- Enhance your cultural leadership development
- Network with people you might not usually connect with
During this session, participants will engage in self-reflection, interact with others, and participate in activities that support greater cultural exploration and push participants to think innovatively about the diversity at UNC. Throughout this session, participants are encouraged to ask and answer questions in an effort to practice transformational leadership, by thinking about self in relation to the world and looking for opportunities to make positive change.
This session is facilitated by Ms. Ada Wilson, director for inclusive student excellence in UNC Diversity and Multicultural Affairs and Ms. Kate Kryder, assistant director for Carolina Leadership Development in the UNC Division of Student Affairs.
