David Carr, Ph.D.
An Associate Professor at the School of Information and Library Science, Professor Carr teaches about libraries, information and culture, museums, collections and reading. His interests include lifelong learning and the cultural institutions that encourage it.
He has written extensively about self-directed learning in museums and libraries.
He has consulted for a wide variety of such institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Professor Carr's publications have appeared in many scholarly journals and he has published a collection of essays, The Promise of Cultural Institutions. He has also participated as a keynote speaker for the New York Public Library and presented in a White House Colloquium on Libraries, Museums and Lifelong Learning.
