Annette Cox, Historian, Center for the Study of the American South
Annette Cox created the Virtual Museum of University History at museum.unc.edu. Funded by the Chancellor, museum’s goal is to make the university’s history more accessible to the public. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the nation's oldest state university, with a rich history of more than two centuries. This virtual museum retells that history much as a physical museum might do, with texts and images arranged in a series of roughly chronological exhibits. Along the way, there is much for the university's friends to take pride in, and other truths that are now painful to remember. The Virtual Museum of University History is a collaboration between The UNC Center for the Study of the American South and The University Library.
Educated at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Ms. Cox received a Ph.D. in modern U.S. history from Chapel Hill and has published extensively on North Carolina history including articles on the textile industry and Cornelia Phillips Spencer.
