 David Gerber, M.D.
An associate professor of surgery at UNC since 1998, Dr. Gerber's research interests include investigating liver and islet stem cells in order to determine how they can be used in organ transplants for patients with diabetes and liver diseases, as well as other applications.
These include a focus on integrating stem cell technologies with the development of bioartificial organs.
His clinical practice includes liver and kidney transplantations. He has received awards from the American College of Surgeons, the American Liver Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health, among others.
