Jonathan M. Lees, Ph.D.
Jonathan Lees is a seismologist specializing in imaging the earth's crust and deep interior. He has worked extensively around the Pacific Rim studying the earthquakes and volcanoes that erupt continuously in the most exciting settings on earth. Starting in the Cascades western Washington (Mount St. Helens) and along the San Adreas Fault in California, Professor Lees began exploring the dynamics of how volcanoes and tectonics work together.
In the 1990s Professor Lees organized and led extensive field work in Russia that has forged a new understanding of how plate tectonics works near active margins.
