Laurie E. McNeil, Ph.D.
Laurie McNeil is a professor of physics and astronomy and of applied and materials sciences. A member of the University's Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars, she held a Bowman and Gordon Gray Distinguished Professorship for "excellence in inspirational teaching of undergraduate students" from 1996 to 1999. She also has been awarded the 2009 Mary Turner Lane Award.
She and music professor Brent Wissick teach a popular seminar in which students apply the principles of music and physics to create their own instruments and musical compositions. McNeil's research focuses on optical spectroscopy of semiconductors and insulators.
