Louis A. Pérez, Jr., Ph.D.
Louis A. Pérez Jr. is the J. Carlyle Sitterson Professor of History in the College of Arts and Sciences. His principal teaching fields include twentieth-century Latin America, the Caribbean, and Cuba. Professor Pérez has written and edited fifteen books, and his articles have appeared in the principal journals of the profession.
His most recent books include Cuba: Between Reform and Revolution (2d ed.); Cuba and the United States: Ties of Singular Intimacy (2d ed.); The War of 1898: The United States and Cuba in History and Historiography; and On Becoming Cuban: Identity, Nationality and Culture. The recipient of numerous fellowships, Professor Pérez has served on a number of professional committees, most recently the Latin American studies Association (LASA) Task Force on Scholarly Relations with Cuba, the National council on United States-Cuban Relations, the Conference on Latin American History, and the ACLS/SSRC Working Group on Cuba.
