Niklaus Steiner, Ph.D. Niklaus Steiner, Ph.D.

Niklaus Steiner is associate director of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and adjunct professor in the Curriculum of International Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. A native of Switzerland who moved to the U.S. in his youth, Steiner has had the good fortune of being able to move back and forth between two culture all his life. This life experience has shaped his academic focus.

Professor Steiner's research interests include refugees, nationalism, and national identity, and he has various publications in this field, including the book Arguing About Asylum: The Complexity of Refugee Debates in Europe.
