James Thompson, Ph.D.
James Thompson, Ph.D.

James Thompson, professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, has been studying eighteenth-century England since his freshman year at Brandeis University, through graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins and the University of Florida.

After a four-year apprenticeship at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, he came to North Carolina in 1982 and has been teaching English literature at UNC-Chapel Hill ever since. He has written books on eighteenth-century drama and fiction, and is currently writing his second book on Jane Austen.
