Francisco E. Werner, Ph.D.
Using computer simulation to study the effects of oceanographic factors on marine fish, Francisco Werner is trying to understand the environmental and climactic factors that have led to observed fluctuations in fish populations.
Case studies include the massive tilefish kill off the New York shelf in the 1880s and the recent decrease in cod populations of the North Atlantic. Werner, a professor of marine sciences, teaches courses in physical oceanography and computer simulations of marine systems. He is on the editorial board of the journal Fisheries-Oceanography.
