Writing Center Organization

The UNC-CH Writing Center, administered through the College of Arts and Sciences, is one of several units in the Centers for Student Success and Academic Counseling. The Writing Center originated and developed in the care of the English department and maintains its affiliation with the department through collaborative projects.

The Writing Center aims to provide members of the University community with free, non-credit avenues for improving their writing. Services in the Center include individual tutorials, a grammar hotline, campus workshops, a resource library, and support for writing groups. We continue to develop and expand services and welcome suggestions as we grow.

Staff in the Writing Center currently include a full-time, permanent director, assistant director, two ESL specialists, and an administrative assistant; fifteen graduate student tutors from across the curriculum; and undergraduate office assistants. We offer onsite tutorials in our main location in the basement of SASB North and in our satellite office in 221 Greenlaw Hall. We invite those who visit the onsite Writing Center to bring their writing in on their laptops, on a CD or memory stick, or in print and work with a tutor at one of our computers. Online tutorials are available at the user's convenience through this site.
