Speaking Groups for Non-Native Speakers of English
What is a Speaking Group?
A Speaking Group consists of 5 or more non-native speakers of English (students, scholars, faculty, and staff at UNC) who meet regularly to practice and improve their spoken English. Each group meeting lasts one hour.
Each group will have a different purpose and focus. For example:
- giving presentations
- conversation and culture
- academic discussions
All groups are led by the participants. You choose the topics and lead the discussions!
How Do I Join a Speaking Group?
Speaking Groups are closed for Fall 2009. Please check back in December for details about new speaking groups for Spring 2010. Join our listserv for regular updates!
Please note these guidelines for participating in a speaking group:
- You must make a commitment to attend the group regularly.
- All participants must participate! You may not just listen!
- You may join a speaking group during the semester if there is space.
- Sorry, but spouses and other community members may not participate.
