Each time students visit the Writing Center they evaluate their experience. This page gives you a sample of the kinds of remarks students make about Writing Center services. You are welcome to use these remarks in promoting Writing Center services to your students.

I have been particularly impressed with the Writing Center each time I've visited. What a valuable resource we have here at UNC!

Scott not only knows how to help me with my resume, he actually remembers what we worked on before, which was a couple of months ago. I am very impressed. Thank you for helping me. I am grateful that there is [a] Writing Center at UNC. The Program has helped me tremendously. I don't know where else to get help if there is no Writing Center!

Scott helped me with not only the paper I brought in, but he helped me with my overall writing style. I felt that his help applied not only to a specific paper, but my writing ability as a whole.

My conference was excellent. After visiting with Scott, he helped me visualize my own mistakes and encouraged me to think and correct them, instead of just telling me what to do.

Scott really helped me come up with ways to write a good thesis. This is an area that I've always had problems in. Yet, now I feel very comfortable with starting my paper. I'm glad that I came.

Scott is very good about focusing on what I see are the problems; sometimes I worry about grammar, other times sentence structure, and every time we are able to address my needs as a writer.

I was a bit nervous about having my work evaluated but within a couple of minutes I felt at ease with the tutor because he was willing to help -- by letting me explain my weak points in writing. I did not feel rushed to explain my work. Also, I appreciated him taking the time to understand what I was trying to cover in the paper before he offered suggestions & also going over the suggestions as to why they were necessary. Thank you.

Scott was very helpful and allowed me to correct my own mistakes with good advising. I think the Writing Center is a great place to come for help on all types of papers.

Scott did a good job with clearing up some issues in my writing. He did not speak of specific problems I had with my paper until I asked him questions. This was kind of frustrating because other tutors have been specific, but I guess maybe he was trying to help me realize my own problems, to become a more independent writer.

I can't be any more thrilled than I am. Kathy must be a genius or have an understanding of LD/ADHD. She helped me not just at the Writing Center, but when I go home to do assignments also. When I am at the Writing Center she breaks all the tasks down, explains them all clearly, makes sure I understand them, and then she shows and suggests better ways in which I could use them. She doesn't just show me the prescribed help, she helps me find the best way that I work. She has showed me the task that will now only allow me to be successful on the paper now but in my writings to come. She has helped me organize, prioritize, and put structure into my skills and views of writing.

Great. She asked questions that prompted me to think and explain my thoughts so the reader doesn't have to do my work. I feel a lot more confident about my paper, especially my working thesis. The paper will flow more easily and not have my the reader [wondering] why I included the examples and information that I did. Thank you!

I thoroughly enjoyed the amount of time I had with Kathy because I was able to talk about what I had trouble with and why I could not write (or understand) certain comments made by my teacher. I got to express my opinion and also got feedback on how I could incorporate that into my paper. I now have a better understanding of what I should/need to write about.

My tutor provided insights and answered my questions without forcing her suggestions or demanding immediate alteration. By showing me my weaker points without rewriting my paper for me, I feel that she helped me learn how to better edit my own work. Therefore, I feel as if the paper is mine and I hope that I can apply this information to future assignments.

It was really helpful. Kathy helped me not only organize my thoughts, but also put down on paper what I was really trying to say. I liked that she didn't really tell me what to do but helped me figure out what I wanted to do.

I think that I had an excellent conference. Kathy introduced me to some new writing strategies which helped me with this particular paper and with others I will have in the future. She also helped me with making what I wanted to say more clear and understandable to the reader. Her help with transition phrases was also very good.

Kirstin was very helpful. She helped me "tweak" parts that needed adjustments. The best advice she gave me was to trust my instincts.

I like how Kirstin allowed me to spot my own problems so I could correct them. She also gave me a few tips on grammar which I can apply to my future writings. She was straightforward and candid with me about problems that arose in my paper. I enjoyed working with her because she displayed a sincere interest in helping me to revise my paper.

Very informative. I liked being allowed to help myself in addition to her helping me. . . .I understand what I need to do and have a comprehensive view of what will make my papers better in the future. She showed me all the spots that needed help and was very helpful in explaining why they need help.

My tutor was awesome. She never took over my paper and I liked the fact that she encouraged me to make changes; she didn't make them for me.

I feel a hundred times better about this paper than I did 15 minutes ago. I was a little nervous about coming without a working draft. I think a lot of students are under the impression that they need one to come. If you could emphasize the fact that the Writing Center can help students from the beginning of the writing process a lot of students would benefit I think.

It was great. She helped me sooooo much. I feel so much better about writing my paper now and I feel more confident about writing papers in the future. Her suggestions were great and I even learned to solve a common problem that's in almost all of my papers. I'll definitely be back the next time there's a problem.

I think that Kimberly was a great tutor. She allowed me much room to explain my paper and come up with some of my own suggestions for improving the paper. It will be useful and helpful to me to use this process when I write other papers. She made me realize that writing a paper is a process which takes time and the process needs to be practiced by the writer when he or she is writing papers.

I really enjoyed my first visit to the Writing Center. More than anything, this allowed me to have a productive discussion with someone and made me realize what (on my own) I should work on. Thank you!

Kimberly pointed out several things for me to work on. She was a great deal of help in revising my paper. I felt very at ease and never felt "dumb" about anything I wrote.

Kimberly was phenomenally helpful and incredibly approachable. This is a fantastic resource for me. The use of a writing center for help was one of the main reasons I chose UNC as a college to attend. This center and Kimberly are very needed on this campus.

Chris was extremely helpful in guiding my paper so that it was more organized. He listened to what my thoughts were on each paragraph and then suggested some ways to go about proving this in my paper. This is m first time to the Writing Center and I found it very helpful. I don't know why I've never come before.

The session went very well. The tutor was very helpful and was concerned with my problem. He also pointed out what mistakes he'd done in his writings to help me. He also helped me to develop my ideas in a way to use in my paper.

Christopher did a really good job of giving me constructive criticism and helping me have "faith" in my writing. He told me good ways to edit and assured my fears that I really wasn't a bad writer.

I am consistently satisfied with my visits. I was so thankful that Chris was patient with me, because I was very confused by this assignment. I felt like I kept getting defensive about my argument, but he was still very patient and understanding and just showed me different ways of thinking about it until I did see the flaw in my argument. I was extremely glad I came. I realized several errors in my paper and learned to make my writing flow much better. I also learned how to gain access to help on the web.

It really helped. I'm glad she let me explain my thoughts, so I would understand my mistakes. I really like reading things out loud because you can catch mistakes a lot easier. She gave very good suggestions in fixing my paragraphs. I'm very glad this is offered because it really helped me a lot.

It was good, I was glad that she helped me to recognize my writing problems. This gave me a sense that I could figure out a lot of my mistakes with the tips she offered.

As always the tutor was extremely helpful. Eric helped me see the weaknesses of my paper and made great suggestions for improving them. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without the help of the Writing Center.

Very helpful. He helped me with a few sections of my thesis, and especially helped me to develop strategies for recognizing problem areas on my own. Even though he couldn't have had a background in the subject, he recognized problems and helped me to refine my philosophy. I need to come back!

Really enjoyed the session. You seem to have an effective routine that stimulates thought by the writer while making useful suggestions.

Eric made many suggestions to help me get started. The comments he made were helpful in connecting my ideas and getting them ready for paper. I was very motivated rather than discouraged as I started out by his suggestions.

Gena was extremely helpful. I needed guidance in regard to my lack of development and focus in my writing. She gave me advice, showed me multiple examples, and made me feel more assured about my writing. I actually enjoyed my conference with Gena. She knew what she was talking about. She is adept at conveying ideas and teaching. Once I told her what I needed her help on, she provided me with a wealth of knowledge. She listened to the issues I had and then helped me overcome some of my writing deficiencies.

My conference was great. We addressed all of my concerns and improved the paper a great deal. My Writing Center experience could not have been better either of the two times I have been here.

What an excellent tutor. She helped me with my paper but more importantly she taught me how to avoid the problems I was experiencing and write a clear and concise paper.

I was really surprised with the interest Gena showed towards my success. With this hour meeting, I believe that all of my other papers will improve. I'll surely come back!

My tutor was extremely helpful. She allowed me to explore my thoughts and she encouraged me to expand on them. For me, writing is a very personal process, yet she never made me feel uncomfortable about what I had written or thought. She was extremely open with me about what worked and what didn't in my thesis statement. She helped me get directly to the point I was trying to make by simply asking me questions about my generalizations.

Everything was excellent. It was even better than I had been told it was.

I basically rewrote my thesis statement. I really liked the fact that Gena made me write my thesis in my own words. That really helped me.

I feel the Writing Center is a great advantage for writers to use. I have no complaints, and I hope the center will continue to provide help to all writers.

She was extremely helpful, making me think and question myself. Gena made some really good suggestions and I feel as if I gained something from meeting with her.

Through examining what I had written Vicki helped me analyze trends in twentieth-century medical history. This helped me derive a thesis. I feel much more confident about relaying the information I've researched in an organized fashion. It helped to know where in my paper I needed additional clincher-type sentences and condensing of random information.

Tutor made me feel comfortable about my work and helped define clearly what needed improvement in my paper and ways to go about fixing it. Session was helpful and I plan to return.

It was great. I enjoyed the session thoroughly and felt like I benefited a great deal. I will come back. Before I came, I had doubts about how much I would learn. But I feel like I learned much.

It was a great experience for me. I had no idea as to what to expect coming in, but the personal attention and concern for my writing was outstanding. I will highly recommend this to all of my friends in search of writing help. . . . She did a great job of helping me with the areas I asked for help in, as well as other areas. She gave me techniques I can use to revise my papers by myself later on. It was an outstanding experience, far surpassing my expectations.

I feel as though I received my tutor's utmost concentration and concern. I know that my paper has improved significantly as a result of our session.

It was great. He made suggestion to me and I made suggestions and he asked me how I thought about my own suggestions. I like that a lot.

This was my first time at the Writing Center and I know I'll definitely be coming back. Aaron helped me understand what my papers strengths and weaknesses were, and he had great suggestions for improving it. Aaron was very nice and relaxed, and very helpful. I have a better idea of what I need to work on concerning this paper, and future ones.

The conference I held was very helpful. While he encouraged me to develop my own ideas, Aaron was very helpful with his own input at the same time. Overall, it was a great success!

This was the first time at the Writing Center and I found it extremely helpful. It allowed me to see exactly what my instructor was saying in her comments about my paper and what was expected of me from then on.

I was pleasantly surprised at my first time visit. I think that I received great help to improve my paper I will definitely be back to receive more help.

In my conference my tutor read my paper aloud after I told him the areas I wanted to work on. He pointed out ways for me to strengthen my thesis statement, transitions, and topic sentences. I appreciated my conference with my tutor. He asked me what I wanted to work on and he read my paper so that we could both "hear" what needed to be worked on. He offered many good suggestions for ways I could improve my thesis, topic sentences, and transitions. After each suggestion he asked if I agreed with or understood his suggestions. This helped me be responsive and responsible for my paper.

I feel very comfortable discussing my writing difficulties with Suzanne. She also gave me some great suggestions for my next paper. Overall I was very impressed - Thanks!

This was only my second visit to the Writing Center, but I can already tell the difference it's making in my writing. The tutors and the website are very helpful.

It was a positive tutoring experience. I know that I will visit the Writing Center whenever I need extra help.

My tutor did a great job making me feel comfortable. I had never written a paper for a college professor before, but she made me feel confident about my writing. Her suggestions were helpful and she didn't try to force me to change my writing style.

This was much more relaxing and helpful than I was expecting. I'll definitely come back (many times).

After two months of dragging to attend the Writing Center I finally made it and boy, am I glad. I have not been this enlightened about my writing, nor been inspired to write since undergrad. Excellent. She listened intently and was able to give me all of the instruction that I needed. I will be introduced to your resource center and hopefully will improve my style and elevate it to a graduate level fairly quickly.

It was an eye opener for me. I think she was an excellent tutor. I felt discouraged when I started. However, she really lifted my spirits and gave me hope.

I am glad I came to the WC. I felt that I had a strong grasp on my ideas and was not conveying them to their potential. The WC tutor helped me to understand how I can do that.
