Faculty Information
To introduce you to the Online Writing Center, a few informative notes are included below. You are also encouraged to view a brief video of how to use the Online Tutor, read a few sample online responses (English 11 | Health Policy), and visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Here's answers to some questions you may have:
- How can the Online Tutor help my students?
Your students can submit any piece of writing (at any stage in the writing process) to the Online Tutor. Trained UNC-CH graduate students will then read the student's draft and offer comments directed toward the student's concerns. We do not edit or proofread, nor do we in any way re-write the student's paper. - Can I require that my students use the Online Tutor or make usage worth extra credit?
No. We operate on a volunteer basis only. We operate in this way for two reasons. First, we do not have the means to respond to every student enrolled in all Nursing classes. Second, we'd like to privilege students who voluntarily seek out our services. By using our services, they show admirable intiative and planning that someone who is required to use our services may not. - What else can the Writing Center do for me?
We maintain a series of handouts for use in your courses. You can find them all here. In addition, we can work with you to help you devise your writing assignments and even lead a workshop for your students on selected writing topics. Email us to find out how the Writing Center can help you and your students.
