Talk with an expert
Graduate students serve as consultants in the Writing Center and receive extensive training in the teaching of writing. A full-time director, Dr. Kimberly Abels, and an assistant director, Dr. Vicki Behrens, supervise the staff and are available to discuss concerns with students, staff, and faculty. A full-time ESL specialist, Gigi Taylor, offers training and support for tutors and faculty in their work with ESL students.
Make an appointment

Setting up a meeting with a Writing Center consultant is easy (at least during times when our schedule is not full!). Just make an appointment via the web. Go to our homepage and click on Make an Appointment. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the date and time most convenient for you. We are open Monday-Thursday between 9AM and 7PM and Friday between 9AM and 4PM. Walk-ins are welcome as the schedule permits. However, the Writing Center schedule fills up quickly, so you should try to make an appointment several days in advance of paper and assignment due dates.

We are experiencing increasing demand for our services. Please understand that we must begin appointments on time, at the top of the hour. If you have not arrived at the Writing Center ten minutes after the hour, your appointment time may be given to someone else.

Want to work on a computer?
If you prefer, bring a disk and work on your writing with a consultant at our computers. We have the same word-processing software that is available in the campus computing labs. You can also bring your laptop to a tutoring session if you like to work directly on the computer.
