UNC Design Services

Karen is from upstate New York, where she graduated with a BFA in graphic design with high honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She freelanced for such publications as the Independent Weekly before signing on with Design Services in 2004. Karen is very sensitive to typography in her work and applies her basic design philosophy of “less is more” to all areas of her life, including other creative pursuits such as photography, painting, and ceramics.

Chris graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in journalism and a concentration in design. He started designing Web sites in high school and later turned his attention to interactive multimedia. He developed skills in flash, php, and AJAX before coming to Design Services in 2006. Chris's minimalist approach to design has served him well in his work with small businesses and as a budding photographer.

Lauren graduated from North Carolina State University with her BS in computer science and went back to earn her BGD in graphic design. She loves learning about clients' varied backgrounds and working with them to create the right design solution for their needs. Prior to joining Design Services, Lauren worked with an offset and letterpress print shop as a designer while picking up first-hand press knowledge. She loves typography and working with her hands whether screen-printing or on her Chandler & Price tabletop press.

Scott has been involved in Web development for over a decade. He has worked with some of the region's best designers to craft Web presences for clients as varied as the City of Raleigh, WRAL-TV, recording artists Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion, and North Carolina State University's College of Design.

Amanda graduated from the University of Iowa with a BFA in graphic design, earning honors and highest distinction. She worked for an advertising agency in Connecticut before moving to North Carolina to join Design Services. In her work as art director and photographer, she has created award-winning designs for a large variety of clients and scales of production. Photography is a long-time interest used to capture her travels and everyday life, while also complementing the typographic touch in her work.
