Diversity Assessment FAQ
Why is UNC-CH doing a diversity assessment?
As part of Carolina's commitment to a diverse, inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff, Chancellor James Moeser has charged the Office for Minority Affairs with developing a plan to guide and conduct a campus-wide diversity assessment. The outcomes of this assessment will be used to formulate a pan-university diversity plan.
What will the assessment examine?
The assessment will explore a wide range of diversity aspects, including the experiences of students, faculty and staff concerning issues related to race, gender, class, sexuality, culture, religion, and region. Specific schools and units will have opportunities to focus the assessment on diversity issues of particular interest.
Who will be involved in designing and conducting this assessment?
A Chancellor's Task Force composed of university faculty, staff and students representative of the campus community. The Office for Minority Affairs will provide administrative support for the process.
When will this assessment take place?
The Task Force will be appointed by late summer of 2004, and will begin to meet in September, 2004. The Assessment will take place over the next academic year, with a final report submitted to the Chancellor by the end of fall semester 2005.
