- The Faculty Council Resolution 98-6 also addressed the importance of diversity to the university's mission.
- One of the earliest to recommend a diversity plan was the Chancellor's Minority Affairs Review Committee chaired by Professor Charles Daye, Brandeis Professor of Law. In their final report submitted in May 2000, the committee made many recommendations, including the need to conduct a systematic and thorough university-wide minority affairs assessment and the need to develop a university-wide diversity plan. )
- The Carolina Academic Plan also stated the need for attention to diversity unequivocally.
- The Enrollment Policy Advisory Committee clearly states the importance of diversity among its guiding principles.
- The University's statement on non-discrimination and equal opportunity outlines the philosophy of the University as well.
- The University Mission Statement
- The Office for Minority Affairs Mission Statement
