Diversity Incentive Fund

Updates:

Background: In the spring of 2005, the Chancellor's Task Force on Diversity recommended that the University create a diversity incentive fund to encourage faculty, staff and students to offer educational programs and develop campus-based initiatives that promote cross cultural learning and knowledge. Chancellor James Moeser endorsed this recommendation and the Diversity Incentive Fund was established in fall of 2005.

Purpose: The Diversity Incentive Fund is intended to encourage and support faculty, staff, and students in the creation of new opportunities for interaction and cross group learning through innovative diversity programs and activities. The fund is specifically designed to provide support for new, innovative and creative approaches to engaging a broad cross-section of the University community in issues related to diversity. Please note: The fund is not intended to provide support for on-going programs, research projects, individual projects, travel, salaries or other activities which are already in existence. Specific funding awards will be at the discretion of the review committee.

How to Apply: Please submit your application at least 30 days before the funds are needed. Applications must be submitted electronically to Dr. Cookie Newsom at newsom@email.unc.edu . In order for the application to be considered, the applicant should have a university recognized account. The Diversity Incentive Fund will be administered by Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, in the Office of the Provost. Applications may be submitted by current faculty, staff, or students and will be reviewed by a committee of faculty and staff. Examples of programs that may be supported include lectures, symposia, performances, assessment activities, and other innovative approaches for addressing diversity as conceived in the University's Core Values for Diversity .

Amount: Requests may be made for up to $2,500.

Funding Restrictions : Awards may not be used to fund

Note: If funds are awarded Diversity and Multicultural Affairs must be listed as a supporter on any print or other promotional materials produced for the event. A brief report, including a final financial record, is required by recipients of funds following the program/event. This report must be submitted within four weeks of the completion of the event.
