Serve. Carolina R.O.C.T.S. (Rejuvenating Our Community Through Service) sponsors the 12th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. This volunteer opportunity allows individuals to make a difference throughout the Triangle community. MLK Youth Leadership Program | 9:30 am–1 pm | Student Union Room 2518

Learn. The Carolina R.O.C.T.S. Youth Leadership Program will center on two major themes. First, high-school students will learn leadership through adversity and how to be successful leaders in their schools. The second theme is to improve the participants’ public speaking skills. Working with a local public speaking organization, they will learn how to evaluate the speeches of others fairly and effectively, and how to organize and deliver their own speeches. Mobilize. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro and UNC-Chapel Hill chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will sponsor the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Rally, March, and Worship Service. Meet for the rally at 9:00 and then join the march down Franklin Street ending at Historic First Baptist Church. The service at First Baptist Church (106 North Roberson Street, Chapel Hill, NC) will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by a guest speaker and performances. Unify. In the spirit of Dr. King’s commitment to bridge gaps between people from all walks of life, the sponsors are proud to present the 6th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Dinner. Carolina students are invited to share a meal, make connections, listen to a guest speaker, and engage in conversations about Dr. King’s legacy in contemporary society. Inspire. The Stone Center’s annual MLK holiday program examines King’s legacy through music, dance, poetry, and spoken word. Community members, faculty, staff, and students will come together to celebrate Dr. King’s life and work. A reception will follow the free program.
