Founder's Day
On November 19, 2005, over 250 alumni gathered at the new DU house to celebrate its unveiling, ushering in a new era for Delta Upsilon at UNC.

While there is no mold for the “typical” DU, the fraternity does seek out a certain type of individual.  We are looking for men who came to Carolina to get a great education and to build an exciting and prosperous future for themselves.  These men understand that the education they will receive will not just happen in the classroom.  It will also be obtained through active participation in campus activities, through involvement in the community, and through the development of close friendships with a diverse group of individuals.  The “typical” DU is eager to make new friends from different places and different backgrounds than those from which he came, and he fervently embraces the four founding principles of Delta Upsilon; Promotion of Friendship, Development of Character, Diffusion of Liberal Culture, and Advancement of Justice.  He takes pride in making outstanding grades and not only joins in campus activities, but seeks leadership roles in them.

While the “typical” DU knows how to work hard, he also knows how to play hard; he enjoys a good party, but knows “when to say when.”   He avoids excessive and irresponsible behavior and does not tolerate it from others.

So, the "typical" DU doesn’t come from a certain place, he doesn't play a certain sport, and he doesn’t dress in a certain way.  But he does have a desire to excel, a willingness to participate, and an appreciation of the value of close friendships.
