Call for Nominations, 2008 Distinguished Alumna/us Awards
August 24, 2007
Members of the General Faculty
The Committee on Honorary Degrees and Special Awards invites your nominations for Distinguished Alumna and Alumnus Awards to be presented at the October 12, 2008, University Day ceremony. A maximum of five awards is authorized by the enabling faculty legislation. Those so honored are nominated by the committee, recommended by the Faculty Council, and approved by the Board of Trustees. Awards are not conferred in absentia or posthumously.
Please include appropriate biographical information and a statement in support of the nomination. Your statement should demonstrate that the nominee has made an outstanding contribution to humanity in any walk of life. Nominators often seek supporting letters from others, but the content of such letters, not their number, is what counts. You will find a roster of previous recipients here.
Nominations must be received in the Office of Faculty Governance no later than 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007. You may email, fax, or mail your nomination materials to:
Office of Faculty Governance
Nominees must be alumni of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This is defined as including all persons who were registered for at least one full academic year as a student in residence in any college or school of the University. In general, anyone listed in the General Alumni Association’s Alumni Directory is eligible except members of the University faculty, staff, and administration. They become eligible two years after separation from the University.
Members of the Committee on Honorary Degrees and Special Awards are Professors Susan Lord (Chair), Hodding Carter, James Johnson, Gene Orringer, Jacquelyn Hall, Jan Yopp, and Joseph Ferrell (ex officio). Please contact me or any other member of the committee if you have questions about eligibility or process.
Joseph S. Ferrell
Secretary of the Faculty
