The following is a list of items that are either radioactive in nature or that contain radiation-producing devices. All requisitions for these kinds of commodities require the signature approval of Environment, Health, & Safety before being sent to Purchasing Services. Please call Environment, Health, & Safety at 962-5507 with any questions.

• Certain smoke detectors
• Exit signs (those that are non-electric and use radiation devices)
• Calibration kits containing radioactive materials
• Gas chromatography and electron capture detectors
• All radioactive materials
• All X-ray machines (including portable X-ray machine cabinets) and other radiation devices
• Liquid scintillation counters
• Static eliminators
• Aerosol-generating devices
• Electron microscopes
• Lasers (flow cytometers, laser instruments)
• Microwave devices
• Infrared devices
• Ultraviolet devices (tissue culture hoods, spectrophotometers--unless source is enclosed)
• Ultrasonic devices
• Diathermy units
• Cauterizers (except heating element contact types)
