- UNC Printing Services, Harris Building (308 Highway 54 Bypass, Carrboro), 962-5566
All printing and photoduplicating work paid from University-administered funds, regardless of the source, must be referred to UNC Printing Services or one of its Campus Copy Centers. Printing or copying procured contrary to policies and procedures outlined in the Printing Services (PRT) section of the Business Manual will be the personal responsibility of the contracting individual.
- Center For Teaching and Learning (CTL), CB #3470, 316 Wilson Library, 966-1289
CTL services are provided at no charge to teachers, departments, and units of the Division of Academic Affairs. If you teach a class with matriculating students (graduate or undergraduate) in the Academic Affairs division, you are eligible for Center services. Services are also available to other units of Academic Affairs whose activities directly relate to and support classroom instruction. All other items are provided as time allows on a fee-for-service basis.
- Instructor Training
The instructor training service helps instructors evaluate and improve their teaching skills. Classroom observation and individual consultations, as well as special training sessions for teaching assistants and faculty, are some of the services that can be tailored to the specific needs of departments and individuals. Center staff offer sessions on topics such as constructing tests, lecturing and grading effectively, developing and using audiovisual materials, facilitating classroom discussion, constructing course syllabi, and evaluating instructional effectiveness.- Instructional Design and Development
If you need original instructional materials, CTL staff will design and produce them for you. They are able to provide materials in the following formats: print, videotape, slide/tape programs, computer-based instructional software, videodisk lessons, overhead transparencies, and slides of original materials. The staff assists teachers in organizing, planning, and developing their lectures, courses, and associated materials. They work closely with the teaching faculty to ensure that the faculty member's instructional intent is achieved. The staff can develop or locate appropriate instructional materials in a variety of formats.- Videotaping of Classroom Instruction Program
The Center's videotaping program provides an excellent way to evaluate classroom teaching. CTL personnel go into the various classrooms to videotape classroom instruction by the faculty and teaching assistants in the College of Arts and Sciences. Tapes can be reviewed by the instructor alone, with a member of the CTL staff, or with a colleague. The tape may be purchased at cost from the Center if the instructor wishes to keep it.- Teaching Resource Lab
The Center for Teaching and Learning Teaching Resource Lab has been designed and equipped to permit faculty and teaching assistants to produce simple teaching materials quickly and efficiently. This self-service facility contains equipment for producing a variety of instructional materials, including slides, titles, overhead transparencies, lettering and computer graphics. Center staff will provide any training necessary.Transfers between Departments
An Account Adjustment Request (AJ-1 form) must be used to reimburse one department providing a service or item to another. The department providing the service should fill out the AJ-1 form and forward it for approval to the department receiving the item or service. The form should then be submitted to Accounting Services or Sponsored Research for processing.
