Manufacturer Warranty
Most equipment is warranted by the manufacturer for a period of time against faulty parts or workmanship. Such equipment is generally supplied with a warranty card, which is completed and returned to the manufacturer as soon as the equipment is received. Unless this warranty card is returned, some manufacturers will not recognize their liability for the repair or replacement of the equipment. Return of warranty cards and similar information is the responsibility of the University department that uses the equipment.
Legally, a manufacturer is responsible for replacement or repair of the defective equipment. However, the equipment must be returned freight prepaid to an authorized repair center, only the defective part is replaced at no charge, and replacement labor costs may be charged to the customer.
To request in-warranty service for all types of equipment, submit a Purchase Requisition to Purchasing.
Routine Maintenance
If routine maintenance (service needs that are not normally covered by warranty) will be required for equipment while it is under warranty, talk with the vendor's representative about available service contracts. To purchase such a contract, submit a Purchase Requisition to Purchasing as soon as the equipment is installed.
