| RE: | Administrative Reorganization |
Please let me inform you of a recent reorganization within the administration. Elson Floyd's acceptance of the presidency of Western Michigan University has raised a host of questions concerning how we will operate in the future. Here I attempt to answer those questions by describing three recent changes.
First, we have expanded the administrative cabinet and charged it with decision making and coordination on university-wide issues. The members of the cabinet are the Provost; the vice chancellors for Administration, Information Technology, Student Affairs, and University Advancement; the senior university counsel; the secretary of the university, and myself. I am optimistic this group will help us receive broad input, facilitate rapid dissemination of information, and, ultimately,, make better decisions.
Second, as you know, Jim Ramsey has joined us as the Vice Chancellor for Administration. Jim's responsibilities will include auxiliary services, business and finance, facilities services and human resources. We also expect that he will be helpful in government relations, given his extensive experience as budget director for four governors in Kentucky.
Third, several areas that previously reported to the Executive Vice Chancellor, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Institutional Research and the University Registrar will now report to the Provost.
I am optimistic
that this reorganization will help us serve all constituencies effectively,
providing the basis for broad communication and effective decision making.
