MEMORANDUM

TO: Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs
FROM: Michael Hooker
SUBJECT: Annual Security Report, University Policies and Procedures on Crime
Prevention and Personal Safety

In accordance with the federal Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act, within the next two weeks, all students, faculty and staff will be receiving a copy of the University's annual Security Report. This report contains crime awareness and personal safety information as well as important information about the University's drug and alcohol policies and substance abuse prevention and treatment programs.

I request that you do the following:

(1) Encourage your faculty, staff, temporary employees, and students to familiarize themselves with the contents of the Security Report. Procedures for reporting criminal actions and other emergencies on Campus are found in the articles entitled "Help is just a push-button away" (page 3) and " 'Netting criminals" (page 7).

(2) Review the security policies and procedures for work units for which you are responsible, including specific key and lock-up procedures, to insure that they are adequate. Advice regarding key and lock-up procedures can be obtained from the Department of Public Safety Crime Prevention Officer as noted in the article entitled "Safety is two- way street" (pages I and 8).

(3) Encourage work units for which you are responsible to schedule security awareness programs and obtain security awareness publications from the Department of Public Safety Crime Prevention Officer.

(4) Post all notices regarding crimes, criminal activity, and crime prevention which are distributed by the Department of Public Safety. Please post the notice printed on the back of this memorandum.

(5) Encourage all faculty, staff, and students to read and save the annual Security Report for future reference.

(6) Encourage all faculty, staff, and students to cooperate with the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Health and Safety in all matters affecting their security and safety.

I appreciate your assistance and cooperation in this important matter.
