To all deans and department heads:

Please remind your faculty of the mid-year Commencement ceremony, which will be held this year on Sunday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Smith Center, and provide a list of those intending to participate to Jane Smith, Special Projects Director, CB# 6220 (962-0045), by December 14 in order to arrange seating.

This is a smaller ceremony than the May Commencement, and this year it falls unusually close to the Christmas holiday due to academic calendar constraints, but it is an important event to a significant number of our graduating students, and it means a great deal to them to have our presence and support. The speaker will be our colleague Professor James Peacock, who among his many distinctions is Kenan Professor of Anthropology, Director of the University Center for International Studies, and former Chair of the Faculty.

The faculty will assemble at 1:30 p.m. in the Bowles Room of the Smith Center, in academic regalia. Student Stores will be sending information about purchasing or renting academic regalia.
