MEMORANDUM

TO:  Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs
FROM:  Susan H. Ehringhaus, Convener, Campus Security Committee
SUBJECT:  Evening Activities on Campus--Safety and Security Considerations

As the autumn days grow shorter, the Campus Security Committee requests that you remind faculty, staff, and students who attend classes, meetings, and other campus and community activities at night to be conscious of their personal safety when Traveling to and from those activities and when they are working alone in campus buildings after regular business hours. Please circulate and/or post this notice and mention it at meetings with faculty, staff, and students.

Faculty, staff, and students should keep doors locked while working in labs or offices at night. When walking at night, they should plan their routes in advance so they can stay in well-lit areas, remain alert to their surroundings at all times, and never walk alone. As preferable alternatives to walking, they should call Point-to-Point, or catch the U Bus or the P2P Xpress.
