MEMORANDUM
| TO: | Deans, Directors, and Department Heads |
| FROM: | James R. Ramsey |
| DATE: | July 24, 1998 |
| RE: | Office of Institutional Effectiveness |
We are pleased to announce that the Office of Quality Development has been renamed the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. The name change is being made to better describe the focus of this office in its mission to "promote and support efforts to advance the University's effectiveness in an environment demanding increased accountability and responsiveness." To accomplish this mission, Institutional Effectiveness will continue to support Carolina's quality improvement efforts by providing education, consultation, team/initiative support, and documentation services. These efforts are of interest to me and will be a primary focus of mine as we move forward.
Over the past four years, Carolina's quality development efforts have improved both the efficiency and effectiveness of our university. Over 1300 employees have participated in quality development education programs, with 400 employees currently involved in 42 official process design and process improvement teams working on administrative processes, student services, and information technology services. During the coming year the staff of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness will be expanding their efforts to support continuous improvement at Carolina.
