This is the last FITAC meeting of the spring. Committee will reconvene in the fall.

Appropriate Use of Multicast (Jim Noblitt)

• Campus committee has been convened to explore recommended use of campus multicast network.
• To highlight campus events, must have resources to produce content and advertise effectively (without inundating email in-boxes)
• Great for access to foreign language channels, but is cable-access ubiquitous already?
• Lectures and other campus events, but would need video on demand functionality.
• How would copyright be handled for recorded content?
• Need authentication system for remote distance-ed students
• Some router-based technical issues still need to resolved

Student Government IT Committee Report (James Lee)

Primary concerns about CCI:

• Pricing model is not as current as it should be, does not reflect volume leverage
• Intangibles like warranty and support are not visible to students
• Laptops not integrated into curriculum
• Would like more discounts on academic software

Warranty and repair services account for higher CCI prices.

Getting faculty to reconsider pedagogy is ongoing challenge.

Report will go to Provost and Student Government.

New FITAC Members

• Jim taking suggestions for names
• Need to examine ways to improve faculty attendance
