Comments:

  • Nothing to prevent companies using hybrid business models from raising prices later.
  • Most of the premier journals are affiliated with the professional association. If these journals moved everything online, most faculty would follow. Focus on the professional societies.
  • Time from peer review to publication should be much faster.
  • HSL trying to stay current with new technologies through its Technology Think Tank working group. Wallace shared a glossary the group has produced.
  • Should we include the need for new scholarly publishing models in the FITAC annual report? Concerns about what we do "here" versus changing the entire culture.
  • Identify association chairs/editorial staff here and begin sharing concerns.
  • What about departments where book-publishing counts for more than articles? What's going on with electronic book publishing?
