ON-LINE INFORMATION
The most up-to-date information about FYS offerings and availability is through the online directory of classes, which will have up-to-the-minute information on course additions and cancellations. The online directory lists all of the courses being offered in a particular semester by each department, including FYS, which all have numbers between 50 and 89. An even more useful strategy for exploring FYS being offered is the course search engine. This application is particularly useful because it has a search option entitled "Type of Course" that can be set to "First Year Seminar" and other parameters that can be set to search only specific departments, days, or times.
In preparation for the upcoming semester, the FYS office prepares a document that lists and describes the courses that are planned. For the fall semester, this document is a formal brochure that is published and is distributed to students at their CTOPS session.
For the spring semester, the FYS Course listing is less formal:
SPRING 2010 FYS LISTING
As corrections and additions to the FYS Spring 2010 listing become available, the listing will be updated.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Information about the requirements fulfilled by each FirstYear Seminar can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin. The information is also listed in the brochure or course listing for each semester. First Year Seminars numbered "089" are rotating topics courses that do not carry the same General Education designations from semester to semester. For information about what requirements are fulfilled by a FYS 089 in a particular semester, please consult this list:
