Organ Donation
Currently, there are
approximately 85,000 people in the
United States and
3,000 people in North Carolina waiting for an organ donation
that could save or improve the quality of their lives. Last year, in
the US, about 23,000 people received these life-saving transplants
while nearly 5,000 people died
waiting.
A single person can save up to 8 lives by donating their organs and enhance up to 50 lives by donating tissues. For example, organ and tissue donations can help burn victims (skin), those who are visually impaired (cornea), have heart disease (heart), on dialysis (kidney), have liver disease (liver), have cystic fibrosis (lung), and much much more...
