Student Output from GEOG 591 "Practical GIS", Fall 2012
This experimental course, while techinically "Advanced GIS", was taught Fall 2012 as "Practical GIS" with no prerequisites except general familiarity with Windows and file management. Some of the students had previous coursework in GIScience, but others had no GIS experience at all, and were starting from scratch.
These posters represent the culmination of the independent projects they did after a semester of hands-on labs. The project topics were entirely up to the students and many used the opportunity to apply GIS to their honors thesis or graduate research topics. Each student worked out her/his own topic, acquired the needed data, did all data manipulation, analysis, cartography, and poster design.
- Posters are listed in alphabetical order by student's last name.
- Mike Dimpfl's poster is not displayed here because some of the spatial data he used is protected by Homeland Security rules.
- In some cases a thumbnail of the student's poster is displayed, but there is no pdf file to click through to. This is related to file issues that will hopefully be resolved soon.
- Though this page is located with the HGIS Carolina website, the course was not historically oriented. There is historical and/or temporal content in some of the posters, however.
