
BOY SCOUT TROOP 835
Mission Statement:
As a Boy Scout Troop, we will:
Emphasize a boy led, back packing oriented outdoor program;
Develop boy leadership through service to others;
Promote youth self-sufficiency in the wilderness and at home;
Strive to live into the Scout Oath and Law in our daily lives.
Troop 835 has been recently re-activated at Amity United Methodist Church.
Active until the late 1980's, Troop 835 has a rich history of involvement
in the Chapel Hill community and in the world of Scouting. The re-activated
troop boasts of an exceptionally strong and experienced adult Troop Committee
(with 6 Eagle Scouts), and an accomplished and experienced cadre of senior
youth leadership. The troop has raised over $12,000 already so that it
will be able to concentrate fully on its core program during the next year
without concern over adequate fund raising. Troop 835 is actively represented
in the Occoneechee Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.
Troop size: 24 by 6/1/1998; target size of 48 by 1/1/2000.
Long term goals:
Attend National Jamboree in 2001
Philmont Scout Reservation in 2002
World Jamboree in 2003
Intermediate steps:
District / Council Camporees in spring and fall each year
Regional hiking excursions / camping on monthly basis
Week long summer camp at Camp Durant or Raven Knob
7-14 day Appalachian Trial excursions building to Philmont
High adventure trips for I" Class Scouts - Boundary Waters, etc
Venture Program and High Adventure Camps for senior scouts
Meeting times / location:
Troop 835 meets in "The Scout Hut" beside Amity United Methodist Church
on Estes Drive. Meetings are every Thursday at 7:30 pm. First meeting of
re-activated troop will be May 14 at 7:30 at the "Hut."
Next meetings will be 5/21, 5/28, 6/4. Camping trip 6/5 - 6n. Pre summer
camp meeting (parents, too) 7/16. Summer camp at Camp Durant in Carthage,
NC 7/19-7/26. Regular meetings resume 8/20.
