Morrow Mountain State Park, NC
6 - 7 December 1997
Boy Scout Troop 9
This is the description of an overnight, weekend trip to Morrow Mountain
State Park. The weekend will include a day hike and will focus on advancement,
fire lighting, and cooking skills. Come prepared for a light day hike,
for fire making competition, and with a special meal or cooking technique
for Saturday’s supper.
Schedule.
Saturday 12/6 8:00 a.m. Depart from Chapel of the Cross
Saturday 12/6 10:00 a.m. Meet at Morrow Mountain Park Office
Sunday 12/7 1:00 p.m. Depart for Chapel Hill
3:00 p.m. Arrive in Chapel Hill, Chapel of the Cross
Messages and Emergency Contact.
Telephone messages for pickup after the trip and before the troop starts
home may be left by calling 933-1969.
A status message including the times that the troop starts for home and
expects to arrive may be heard by calling 933-1969.
Personal Equipment
See the troop's personal equipment list for details. Assume extremes of
weather; i.e., pack clothes for 20 deg. F. to 85 deg. F.
Food and Group Equipment
Food (except Saturday lunch) and equipment will be arranged by patrols
at the troop meetings. Pack a bag lunch for Saturday.
Driving Route.
Estimated travel time is approximately two hours from Chapel Hill.

29 mi. US15-501 south to Pittsboro.

38 mi. US64 west to Asheboro.

27 mi. NC49 south to NC8. NC8 merges in from the north, runs with NC49
for five miles and leaves to the south. Take the southern branch of NC8

3 mi. NC8 south to New London.

10 mi. NC740 south to Morrow Mountain S.P. entrance.

Or, from Albemarle, take NC740 north approximately 2 miles to the park
entrance.

Tap water is available at the camp site.
