My research is currently focused on three topics: the nature of figurative language, the folk concept of intentional action, and contextualism within epistemology and linguistics generally. I’m a methodological pluralist who believes discussions of philosophical topics can be fruitfully informed by empirical research within psychology, linguistics and the cognitive sciences.  My influences include relevance theory and the theory of speech acts.
