The Lunar Eclipse
Facilitator : Morrigan
Date : 29 September 1996

MORRIGAN:

MERRY MEET AND WELCOME TO WICCA101! Tonight we are discussing the significance and possible portents of the Lunar Eclipse.

Now, since I am doorward, once again you all have the floor to yourselves

But I'll join in as I can... to be sure

How many of you actually saw the Lunar Eclipse?

Chapin C:

I did

renthispace:

I did

devilman:

I did

Miss World:

I just saw their was no moon

SylverHare:

me me me

Miss World:

I did

Windaly:

I did... 3 quarters of it

renthispace:

red as blood

Chapin C:

you?

FyreLily:

I did

PAniteowl:

was clouded out, but felt it {G}

MORRIGAN:

what feelings did you experience as you watched it?

Chapin C:

interest

SylverHare:

I timed a renewal ritual to it

Red Deer:

{--- definitely saw, and ritualed beneath

Miss World:

I felt calm, yet, full of energy

devilman:

I thought is was magnificent

renthispace:

a warm full feeling like my blood was thick

Miss World:

I performed a ritual

Windaly:

mmm... I felt wonderful. full. I meditated

PAniteowl:

I was disappointed, cause I couldn't see it, then I began a giggle... could feel so many others channeling through {G}

Miss World:

I felt the world was a peaceful place

devilman:

I felt chaos, and anger.

SylverHare:

{g} Pa, was using the opals, I also felt lots through them

MORRIGAN:

Owl mentioned that she thought it was filled with portent. Owl, could you go into those feelings further?

PAniteowl:

Sure Chatty

Miss World:

I felt like I was in a dream like state

PAniteowl:

It was, for me, a bringing together of many things and it felt like a beginning...

devilman:

Or an ending.

PAniteowl:

Like the night before the first day of school...

Windaly:

yes... I felt that... like a beginning...

PAniteowl:

yes, beginnings and changes

Chapin C:

because of the moon?

Miss World:

The next day I was a "new person" filled with joy

PAniteowl:

very positive thoughts came through...

renthispace:

same here

Windaly:

Yes

devilman:

The beginning of what, that is the question

PAniteowl:

anyone else? OK... wait a minute

renthispace:

the beginning of the end

devilman:

Perhaps

Miss World:

I didn't feel the least bit of negativity and have a more positive out look on things

melilot:

there is no end, 'tis a circle

Miss World:

then again... their is no negativity in a circle

SylverHare:

I needed a renewal, and the timing being so close to the AE, made it work out just right, did a parting ritual on old habits and life during the darkening phase and a renewal for the brightening

PAniteowl:

I'm having a problem with Devilman... and rent... too much negative. yes Sylver...

Windaly:

I'm not sure... I have not been studying long... but there have been many changes in my life since I began this path... and I felt like it was another time of change and peace for me

PAniteowl:

yes Windaly... peace was another residual feeling {G}

Red Deer:

I think it interesting the number of folk who described the feeling as "full" {g} as it was a full moon

Windaly:

Like I was doing every thing right and all would be well

Miss World:

I'm always happy!

melilot:

well I've had one strange side effect I can't stop eating since the eclipse

Windaly:

{smiles} for lack of a better word... Red deer

Miss World:

Hey me either!!

PAniteowl:

yes RD... there was a fullness... {g} and I can agree with meli, everything tastes Wonderful!!!

Red Deer:

I always find eclipses fulfilling, Windaly... just observing the pun

Miss World:

Anyone that came in here earlier knew I was talking about food! and Trazy's pizza!

melilot:

intake of a lot of sweets and meat something is up

Windaly:

{g} {---has the curse of being literal

Red Deer:

what could that be meli?

KK Hill:

maybe your pregnant meli

melilot:

NO WAY

renthispace:

lol

Miss World:

I've had 3 sandwiches... ice cream... cookies... bagel... burrito... pie

MORRIGAN:

I must admit to eating more chocolate since the eclipse myself Meli

Miss World:

apples

Red Deer:

I wonder what folk did for the eclipse?

Windaly:

mmm I've been eating a lot too... but I'm def not pregnant

Red Deer:

or did I miss that...

Miss World:

I love food

Red Deer:

{--- did just what I posted on the FMR - less the dolman

PAniteowl:

we hot tubbed it on the deck RD... Will enjoyed it too {G}

Miss World:

I could go for some chocolate ice cream right now... mmm!

Windaly:

I floated in my pool, and watched and meditated...

renthispace:

folk? reddeer?

Miss World:

or another sandwich

MORRIGAN:

I held my ritual, Red, but took an extra amount of time just staring at the moon and thinking about things

melilot:

otto was at work so I tubbed it and had a very peaceful time {g}

KK Hill:

eclipses cause many strange phenomena...

Brigid Anu:

I seem to be in a much better mood since the eclipse...

MORRIGAN:

for example KK?

Windaly:

like what KK

Miss World:

definitely... I cried the next day

PAniteowl:

hmmmm... many of us took to the waters... tidal pull??

Red Deer:

I didn't take my eyes off her for a long spell - my whole ritual. no bells on, even

Miss World:

I took a bath

Brigid Anu:

THAT's a phenomena of sorts...

melilot:

the moon always seems to cause me to look for water pa

KK Hill:

women seem to give birth more frequently during solar eclipses

PAniteowl:

yep meli

Windaly:

me too...

KK Hill:

a full moon also

[editor's note: solar eclipses actually occur during New Moons, not Full Moons]

renthispace:

I though of when my god would come back for me...

MORRIGAN:

I've seen an eclipse once before, but this time, since my practice, it really took on a whole new meaning for me

Miss World:

Menstruation occurs near and on solar days

Red Deer:

Did anyone else "see" the vibration at the moment of totality?

melilot:

not always miss

renthispace:

yes

KK Hill:

not I... was incapacitated

Miss World:

some times... mine came the night before the eclipses

Brigid Anu:

yes, I DEFINATLY noticed that

PAniteowl:

no RD... we couldn't see it at all... but sure felt it {G}

Windaly:

mmmm... my view was a bit cloudy

Brigid Anu:

I felt the wind... all of it.

Azrael:

I wish I could've viewed the eclipse, the meaning it seemed to have hear was 2 inches of rain =)

melilot:

I couldn't "see" anything but sure felt a lot of people {G}

Brigid Anu:

when the moon turned full... it got really gusty

KK Hill:

what practice Chatty?

PAniteowl:

It was like a ripple on the air

Red Deer:

'twas awesome - much like during a solar, but deeper... a wave - almost like on a pond - spreading out across the heavens

Windaly:

It was soft and quiet... calm not a drop of air moving here

Miss World:

My shad fell down and broke on the day of the eclipses

Brigid Anu:

then died down real quick

Windaly:

That's beautiful RD

Miss World:

I heard and felt wind

SylverHare:

did any spammers work with the opals that night? besides me? I felt a huge surge though them round about totality

PAniteowl:

no Sylver... drat !!! I didn't think of it!!!

melilot:

I'm not gonna tell you where those opals were Sylver {G}

SylverHare:

ROFL meli, that explains it then

PAniteowl:

I used the stones Targe gave us

Red Deer:

not I, hare - was engaged in something I needed to do solo...

renthispace:

I watched the total eclipse then I prayed

SylverHare:

I know RedStar did

PAniteowl:

ummmm... I felt myself stepping through the grove for a bit while straining to see through the clouds

FyreLily:

Nice

PAniteowl:

I have been thinking of the many who were drawn to perform ritual and acknowledge the eclipse as a turning point

Carol:

it was pretty cool. also seeing Saturn that close to the earth was neat

Miss World:

I let all my emotions out... then felt so much better. I cried... laughed

Red Deer:

what do people think of the Saturnian influence upon the significance of the eclipse?

MORRIGAN:

interesting Owl. I didn't really feel it was a turning point though, just a wonderment

PAniteowl:

I felt as though we were seeing a doorway open... and that there will be changes coming

renthispace:

what kind owl?

Red Deer:

Elenya says we had a preview of the doorway opening in PA, PA

PAniteowl:

yes, Chat, maybe more like a dawning

Carol:

that any persons with lessons that are nearing completion will come to fruition at that time

PAniteowl:

{G} yes RD... {{{{{{EL}}}}}}

melilot:

that I believe red

Red Deer:

she's reading over my shoulder

Red Deer:

you folk know we have but ONE more before the end of the millennium? CE, that is

Carol:

when i thought this was the last lunar eclipse of the decade

PAniteowl:

yes RD... but this one seems to be special... but I haven't been able to pinpoint my feelings yet

renthispace:

red I know and a change will occur then a great one

SylverHare:

well, next lunar eclipse is in seven years, another significant period numerically, are we perhaps at the start of an important seven year cycle???

Red Deer:

well, Carol, 2000 is the last year of the decade and century and millennium... the new of each starts 01 January 2001

PAniteowl:

this is one I haven't been able to "read"... there are too many images

melilot:

every time a decade ends it is a great one

Red Deer:

Hare - January 2000

Windaly:

I felt that this one was a sign to a big change... coming... I just don't know what or what I felt exactly

PAniteowl:

Ohhh... Sylver... good thought!!!

renthispace:

every 2000 years something big happens

SylverHare:

not up here rd, next visible one for me is in early 2004

PAniteowl:

could it be the Pagan Cycle starting?

Red Deer:

oh, we get one before then... I tend to forget that this place erases some geography

melilot:

but will be in the islands won't it red {eg}

Windaly:

I hope so Owl

PAniteowl:

Could it be that it will be easier to convince people that the earth is in need of help... and reverence?

Red Deer:

I sure hope so, meli... that would be a great time to go if it happens...

melilot:

I think it is more of a confirmation of the pagan cycle pa

renthispace:

I disagree owl

Red Deer:

and (if memory serves me right) it's about the 20th - close to most folk's date for Candlemas (Imbolg)

PAniteowl:

mmmm hmmmm, meli

melilot:

the cycle had begun before the eclipse it felt like it was energizing the cycle

Red Deer:

but, if it's southern Atlantic (and not NY) I kinda doubt the path of totality will cross the islands

PAniteowl:

the signs have been coming, haven't they Meli?

Red Deer:

so has Brad, PA

melilot:

yes they have and they've been coming loud not in whispers

MORRIGAN:

I'm sorry, I'm lost, the Pagan Cycle?

PAniteowl:

{g}

melilot:

the time when the pagan religions will become the leading forces

renthispace:

lol

PAniteowl:

Chatty... how many years have the Pagan religions been suppressed?

Red Deer:

please add to that among western civilizations, meli

PAniteowl:

It is our turn to reclaim

Red Deer:

they already are elsewhere

Azrael:

{---feels like he's listening to Ghengis Khan form his plan for world domination =)

melilot:

oh OK among western civilizations {G}

renthispace:

PA who is the leading now?

MORRIGAN:

OK, I needed some clarification, thanks!

Red Deer:

PA - that question is rather like when is the next eclipse... the answer depends upon where you are

MORRIGAN:

FatherGod based religions rent

SylverHare:

lotsa cycles depending on trad Chat, as a Celt, 7 years would be an important cycle for that was the usual time between the Kingship games at Lughnasadh, which the Morrigan usually presided over{BG}

MORRIGAN:

{g} thanx Sylver!

renthispace:

thanx chat

PAniteowl:

the numbers attracted to Paganism are increasing... it would be good to be recognized as functional human beings instead of "those crazy occultists" {G}

renthispace:

? what if they stay the leading?

MORRIGAN:

so are you then saying that the pendulum is beginning it's counter swing?

Red Deer:

{--- also considers 4 a sacred cycle - three years and then one with an intercaliary day

Azrael:

PA, we're recognized as functionally human beings, we're politely given the choice of the "other" box on most legal forms {G}

Windaly:

Oh yes... I can't begin to allow my relatives to know my religion... {sighs}

melilot:

well most would start cleaning up the planet start taking care of our people

Red Deer:

(4 till our next eclipse)

PAniteowl:

yes, meli

Red Deer:

taking care of ALL our sisters and brothers - human and not

PAniteowl:

agree, RD

TypoDaemon:

aye Red!

melilot:

stop destroying what we don't understand just because it is different

Red Deer:

I believe that is one of the reasons the Gods placed us here

renthispace:

wind I claim my religion no matter who says its wrong!

PAniteowl:

as warders, RD?

Red Deer:

warders, nurses, friends... as SISTERS AND BROTHERS {--- sorta like St Francis

MORRIGAN:

to behave as part of the all and not the lord of it

SylverHare:

easy for you rent, your not "oneofuscrazyoccultists", Pentecostalism doesn't carry the same social condemnation that Paganism does

melilot:

we were put here to live and given a wonderful place to do it on with all the resources we could ever want and we just messed it up

Red Deer:

aye Chatty

PAniteowl:

RD... within the feelings generated by the eclipse... did we receive a message to be guardians of the planet?

Azrael:

Does anyone know when the next Solar Eclipse is?

Azrael:

PA, I'm sure some did.

Red Deer:

that would be part of the implicit message of Saturn in near conjunction with the full moon at eclipse for me, PA

PAniteowl:

OK... what if the sign of the eclipse meant that it could all be taken away if we didn't preserve what we have?

melilot:

I think just being pagan means being a guardian of our world we are responsible for the earth

Red Deer:

it is time for us to bring our action in line with the "wisdom of the ages" in preserving the Web about us

PAniteowl:

yes RD

Yes Meli

did the eclipse "charge" us with a task?

Red Deer:

{--- doesn't believe the Gods would "take away" the Web... but WE might

Azrael:

meli, that's very true, but many pagans (especially new learning pagans) choose a rather detached approach to helping or guarding rather than a "hands on" approach.

MORRIGAN:

by utterly destroying it

PAniteowl:

yes, RD, I agree

Red Deer:

aye, Chatty

melilot:

well AZ unless they start doing hands on the worlds gonna keep getting hurt and if the earth starts hurting enough she is gonna treat us like our bodies treat diseases

Red Deer:

even those who are more hands on don't help, if what they are after is a quick power fix

PAniteowl:

we tell newbies to read books about the craft... maybe we should also tell the to support specific causes... get involved in preservation actions in their local areas

SylverHare:

I am thinking about this now, lunar eclipse with Saturn in conjunction, at the time of the Autumnal equinox when the God is readying the passing of the torch, and Saturn being a planet of rulership and power??? looks like maybe

Red Deer:

and knowledge, Hare

SylverHare:

a upheaval in authority indicated??

MORRIGAN:

yes PA, the last time I heard it mentioned on the BB was Earth Day

melilot:

maybe momma's gonna get nasty Sylver

Red Deer:

or, perhaps a new son will arise to castrate the father {g}

PAniteowl:

yes Sylver...

PAniteowl:

heheh meli... it could happen!!!

SylverHare:

hmmmm,. gonna have to dig out my ephemeris, its been to long since I've studied astrology

renthispace:

PA I'm Christian and I support my mother earth as much as you do

melilot:

well look at what a male dominated religion has led to in this country maybe the tide is for a duel sex dominated to lead

Red Deer:

duEl sex, meli? {g}

melilot:

LOL red

SylverHare:

LOL with meli, all m/f relationships are duels

TypoDaemon:

LOL! ain't it the truth

melilot:

ROFLMAO

PAniteowl:

ROFL

Red Deer:

ah, but that's what keeps them interesting, hare

TypoDaemon:

Meli = Men Eliminated Lovingly Inside {G}

renthispace:

? if mother earth is the goddess what is the god?

Azrael:

The wind's been unusually strong since the lunar eclipse, which is strange because the moon usually doesn't affect air current, only the water...

Red Deer:

the sky above us, rent

melilot:

awwww typo I like that it's cute

Red Deer:

and the sun - as Mother is also the moon

renthispace:

thanx red

PAniteowl:

OK, OK... I'm still trying to figure out what we can do... I just feel an urgency to accomplish something on behalf of the earth and its various creatures

Red Deer:

RECYCLE!!!

renthispace:

that's the ticket

PAniteowl:

I had a strange experience the other day

SylverHare:

and also the grain sprung from the earth rent

MORRIGAN:

aye! and no littering

Sgian Dubh:

I do what I can in my job Owl

melilot:

we could all stop driving

Windaly:

{----recycles

Red Deer:

adopt a whale

melilot:

the eclipse might have been a preview of our sky if we don't take action

Red Deer:

and meat, if you're not vegetarian, Chatty

MORRIGAN:

good point! {G}

Sgian Dubh:

Thanks for the kind words Owl, Meli{G}

Red Deer:

aye Hare... if I've any support to offer, it's yours

renthispace:

What would happen if all religions formed together?

melilot:

chaos rent

Red Deer:

it would be like a John Lennon song, rent... IMAGINE!!!

Azrael:

the world would probably stop rotating too! =)

PAniteowl:

yes meli!

Red Deer:

not just that as the song title - but ENVISION the world being healed

melilot:

it's not the religions that are the problem rent it's the egos

Windaly:

and greed

Merope:

merope thinks it's the testosterone... but that's just my opinion

renthispace:

this is true

melilot:

meli knows how to cure testosterone overload mer

SylverHare:

You know, the day after the eclipse, the local PBS ran the J Campbell program on the grail mythos, now it seems relevant to me, another noodge so to speak

PAniteowl:

yes Sylver... many signs are showing

renthispace:

hare, do you mean the holy grail?

Sgian Dubh:

We had a storm here and during the eclipse the storm got very bad

Red Deer:

that would be the one, rent - it was our grail B4 it was your holy grail

renthispace:

k

SylverHare:

well, the Brythonic mythos predates Xianity but essentially yes Rent

PAniteowl:

same here Sgian {G}

melilot:

LOL red and it was the gods and goddesses before it was ours

MORRIGAN:

Owl, we had complete cloud cover and then suddenly... it was wild!!!

melilot:

I loved the storm during the eclipse just wish I could of had storm and seen it

Red Deer:

aye, meli...

PAniteowl:

aye meli

melilot:

meli wants it all {g}

Windaly:

mmmmmm it was real calm here no wind... nothing but a fine mist over the moon

renthispace:

pa {do you think Jesus ever existed

SylverHare:

the show also showed the use of the grail in the Greek mysteries, in Eleusis before that bloody Paul guy tore it down

Azrael:

it seemed like there was a storm and clouds everywhere during the eclipse

PAniteowl:

We who are constantly aware of the moon cycles have to acknowledge the eclipse as special... I just wish it weren't so obtuse... or is that me, being obtuse {G}

melilot:

would have loved to seen that show Sylver

Red Deer:

how acute, PA {g}

Merope:

we had clear skies here... I got to see the eclipse through a telescope

PAniteowl:

Yes Rent... I think he was a fine magician of the Essenian tribe, which was the "Occult" sect of the Jewish trads

melilot:

nawwwwww pa your not obtuse

Red Deer:

aye PA... sounds real to me

SylverHare:

you're a cute Pa

PAniteowl:

heheheh... {blush} my cover is blown!!!

SylverHare:

{G}

MORRIGAN:

obtuse... well, sometimes important things (omens) are more difficult to uncover I think Owl

renthispace:

my grandfather believes that the bible is a good book but says that nothing really adds up in it , but he believes that there is a higher power

Azrael:

sometimes omens are out in the open, but people make a habit of looking through the window instead of looking on the surface of the glass.

Red Deer:

what do folk make of the magickal significance of this (or any) lunar eclipse?

Red Deer:

{--- has seen a lot on the BBs about a full lunar cycle in a brief time...

Windaly:

for me it was another wonderful thing in my new life... I never looked at an eclipse the way I did this one

PAniteowl:

hmmmm

PAniteowl:

RD... was truly so caught up in the eclipse itself, never even tried "magik"

Red Deer:

but what about the fact that, at the moment of totality, the Lady had Her face turned towards us (full moon) and away from us (dark moon) at the SAME time

Sgian Dubh:

I had to work that night and was to tired to enjoy it

SylverHare:

well, RD, it seems to me the eclipse would be symbolic of the mother and the crone at the same time, sorta of birth and death simultaneously, renewal through destruction, kinda like the tower card

MORRIGAN:

I must admit that the idea of magick didn't occur to me. other than nature's own magick

Windaly:

mmmm

Red Deer:

I didn't mean did you work magick (though I did just that) but the magickal SIGNIFICANCE of the event

PAniteowl:

Red... I was really so enthralled, I have had quite a time just trying to decipher my feelings... I was overwhelmed

Red Deer:

ah, perhaps I was too prepared PA... I spend so long getting ready for any eclipse that , though thoroughly awed, I'm rarely so enthralled...

melilot:

I really think it was particularly a warning of the future unless we get busy think about the horror of never being able to see the full moon again or the sun these are real threats

PAniteowl:

RD... I think the gathering in August has heightened an awareness for me... I look at things newly, and it's a bit overwhelming at times... like I am relearning

PAniteowl:

whoops!!!... do I sound like a {gasp}... Born Again??????

melilot:

OH NO pa is a born again pagan

MoonWillow:

The wheel of the year--- the cyclic dance between the Lord & the Lady... during an eclipse we are not merely observers of the dance, we actually *participate* in it...

Red Deer:

{--- is ALWAYS a participant in the dance, MoonWillow

SylverHare:

come to think of it, - the moon in the classical representation of the eight of cups also in eclipse??? that would indicate a leaving behind of past accomplishments in a further search for wisdom... hmmmmm

MoonWillow:

We stand in the balance between the polarities...

Red Deer:

I'm just more aware of my participation at such nodal events

PAniteowl:

hehehe meli...

MoonWillow:

Good point, well taken Red Deer

PAniteowl:

I guess I'm in another transition again {G}... everything seems refreshed... wonder what I'll be when I grow up? {}

melilot:

hemmmmmm probably the same thing I will pa {EEG} a grownup pagan

Nymue:

exactly who you are now PA,... we HOPE

Sgian Dubh:

Meli will never grow up{G}

melilot:

hehehehehehehe tanks Targe

Nymue:

Meli tried and discovered it wasn't any fun

Red Deer:

{--- sincerely hopes that you never do, PA

I don't want to grow up, I'm a godS R US kid

melilot:

grownups are soooooooooooooooo serious ALL the time makes meli have tummy aches {G}

PAniteowl:

hmmmmm... Peter PAniteowl eh?? {G}

melilot:

ROFLMAO pa

Nymue:

LOL

Sgian Dubh:

LOL

Nymue:

PA... kewl

SylverHare:

{------------sorry, furiously sorting through several Tarot decks looking for eclipses

Red Deer:

meli - you know my all time favorite quote, from Brendan Gill?

melilot:

no red what is it

Red Deer:

"There is not a shred of scientific evidence to support the fact that life is supposed to be serious."

melilot:

LOL that's one of my favorites red

PAniteowl:

Sylver... look at the Empress

MORRIGAN:

Yes, it is getting late all fifteen after the hour as a matter of fact

melilot:

oh I guess class is over then chatty

MORRIGAN:

shall we call this discussion to a close?

SylverHare:

okay, here's the lowdown, of the four decks I have four have eclipses for the Moon Card, three for the eight of cups(the fourth just has four cups, no illustration} and one for the hermit

MORRIGAN:

{---is actually waiting to hear what Sylver has to say

SylverHare:

LOL, just pondering the significance of the eight and the Moon Chatty

melilot:

hehehehee chatty

MORRIGAN:

yes, {G} and I'm waiting to hear your ponderance on it too.

SylverHare:

well, as I said the eight indicates leaving behind the old to look for wisdom in new places, the moon indicates a search for wisdom that is hidden, and not so obvious
