Is there a difference between an empath, and a psychic?

MORRIGAN:

hmmm... well a psychic picks up on events? Is that correct?

PAniteowl:

I believe an empath is a form of a psychic.

and an empath picks up on emotions

yes an empath forms a connection with a persons emotions

I think all have the ability

well it seems to me that when I pick up on emotions I do it more from body language than anything psychic. But when I pick up images about a persons personal life I call that psychic

so empathy is picking up other's emotions?

ummm... but Chatty, I am an empath by the above definition, yet I can read over the telephone, and on the puter {G} .. so what am I???

Well, empathy to me means the ability to relate to another's feelings from personal experience...but I guess that is the dictionary def. How does that relate to Wicca?

I believe empathy is a psychic ability called Psychic Feeling picking up emotional vibrations in the area or from a person (or vibrations that bring out certain emotions)...

IMHO .. an empath identifies with a specific person or place, and takes on the feelings of each ... a Psychic "sees" a person or place but does not become a part of it

as one who is able to connect so completely with another persons emotions

Empathy has a lot to do with wicca really. Psychic ability in general relates to wicca in many ways.

I'd say most, if not all, of us posess some empathic ability. Whether or not we use it differs.

The use of Tarot, or Rune Stones .. etc etc .. help to focus the ability, and practice is the key

Any tool?...meaning I go to the bookstore buy tarot cards and try to go from there?

so it's a finer tuned form of sensing things. In that way I can see how Tarot, Runes or any divination can be of help

but by {focusing} would you not be shutting out the energies... narrowing

Focusing on a psychic sense would be like focusing on a physical sense, not shutting out, but narrowing and tuning your perception to that one area. like when you focus expressly to hear something better.

MORRIGAN:

right, you would be doing this to "feel" something instead, well, I've never really sat down and tried to "play" with this. I think I will and see what happens.

you're outward senses are developed, Chatty, you have to learn to develop the "Inner" sense when I read, Chatty .. I use all senses to get a better picture

not formally, but I do talk to it. it never occured to me to try PA (she said sheepishly)

VW do you consider yourself to be Empathic?

I used to "talk" to my kids, especially right before birth, just to let them know what was going on, and not to be scared {G}

I did that yesterday in the bathtub PA... well, do you then have to block out others emotions VW?

when I coached for birthing .. I use to "contact" the babe and talked to it all during the birth process .. it worked in most cases

I hate hospitals ,prsions ,etc for i pick up on the saddness and pain

I have found that it is easiest to read those who don't believe there is any possibility of psychic or empathic talent {G} .. they never shield!! Hehehe
